Hitachi Australia is looking for a national distributor

Hitachi Australia is on the lookout for a national distributor as it seeks to expand its IT products business.

Digital presentation solutions division general manager, Dipak Kumar, said the business consisted of two segments – its AV professional business, and IT. The vendor is keen to place stronger emphasis on its IT business.

“The IT area is where our next focus is and we’re looking to partner with a distributor to take our product into the market,” he said. “It’s early days at the moment, but we’re talking to a couple of major ones.”

Earlier this year, Hitachi established a partnership with Corporate Express and recently established an agreement with ASI Solutions.

“ASI had a good model going to the market and decided to use our projector with Promethean interactive whiteboards,” he said.

Hitachi has about 30 partners and Kumar said he would like to add further partners on the IT side.

“In the IT area, we’re looking at partners that are able to move our portable products in mass volume, which is a different market all together because there’s very little installation work that goes on,” he said. “We’re very serious right now and have some very good channel incentive programs that we’re working on.”

Hitachi has also hired two staff. Sue Perez has been brought on as the company’s sales executive across NSW, Queensland and New Zealand. She will be responsible for increasing sales and developing new business for the LCD data projector and interactive whiteboard product portfolio.

Perez previously worked at Future Electronics. Miranda Fong also joins the team as its sales coordinator.

Kumar said if the company continued to progress over the next six months, he would look to add a couple of more staff to the team.

“We’ll bringing on two more staff in the next six months, more than likely one will be an interactive whiteboard technical expert and another in sales area,” he said.

The vendor plans to launch an incentive program for its partners in April along with the announcement of a new product range.
