Distributor deliveries delayed by bushfires and floods

Distributors are experiencing three- to four-day delays in shipping out to affected areas

Distributors are experiencing delays with getting IT goods shipped out to flood stricken areas in Queensland and bushfire affected zones in Victoria.

Logistics provider, Star Track Express, said in a statement provided by Westcon Group, it had experienced difficulties with obtaining access to restricted areas and that the delivery of freight was not possible into affected flood locations in north Queensland and regional Victoria due to the bushfires.

Some areas in north Queensland, such as Mount Isa and Mackay Airport, have been affected and some deliveries may not be completed due to businesses being closed to restore power.

Ingham, Atherton and other areas north of Cairns still remain flooded. Roads around the bushfire affected areas in regional Victoria have been reopened but restrictions remain in place in Kinglake and Marysville.

Victoria-based Techplus Distribution, managing director, Paul Kern, said the company had been told by its couriers, that its Queensland deliveries were not possible at this point in time.

“They are letting us know ahead of time so if we had a delivery in those areas we could let people know,” he said.

Queensland-based XiT Distribution, managing director, Santo Pappalardo, hoped things would be back to normal soon.

“We have been advised that it’s taking a few days for things to get through. Everybody realises there’s a problem, but it hasn’t been a major drama,” he said. “Over the last couple of weeks they’ve been giving us notice, due to the floods, that things won’t be getting through these areas for at least three to four days.”
