Iomega has significantly bumped up the storage capacity of its popular Zip drive, launching a 750MB USB 2.0 drive to the range. The drive features a 50x50x50 read/write/rewrite speed and is a significant increase on its 250MB predecessor. Additionally, both the drive and its media are Mac and PC compatible, reducing the number of products distributors and resellers have to deal with. Iomega hopes the device will find favour across all sectors of the marketplace and is positioning the product as an addition to CD-RW storage technologies, citing features such as password protection and durable media as differentiating advantages. The new product also adds a Targus security slot so users can lock the device, a feature that will no doubt go down well in the education market in which theft can be a problem.
The drive is bundled with Iomega Software Solutions suite and will retail for $449. A two-pack of disks costs $64 and a 10-pack will retail for $299.
