StorageTek leaps into virtual market

StorageTek last week took a step forward in the race to overcome the lack of standards in the virtual storage disk market, announcing the release of its new open platform V960 disk subsystem.

According to the company, the V960 "allows customers to use 100 per cent of purchased storage capacity for data" by simplifying data management and self tuning, extending performance capabilities through a "fault-tolerant" virtual storage architecture and optimising performance and load balancing.

In addition, the company claims the V960 subsystem is "capable of virtualising at the disk device level across all major computing platforms", including the IBM OS 390, z390 and open system environments, while inter-operating with attachments to SUN, SP-UX, AIX, Windows 4.0, Windows 2000 and Novell.

StorageTek is currently evaluating its distribution model for the V960, but David Templeton, StorageTek marketing manager, said resellers can receive pricing and availability directly from StorageTek.
