HP StorageWorks MSA2000i

The HP StorageWorks 2000 Modular Smart Array Family (MSA2000) is a new generation of Fibre Channel, iSCSI and SAS storage arrays for SAN implementations. The single controller arrays are specifically designed for entry-level customers and feature new functionality and technology at an affordable price point, HP claims. The MSA2000i supports simultaneous accommodation of enterprise-class, dual-ported SAS drives and archival-class SATA drives. The unit allows customers to grow their storage as demands increase up to 14.4TB SAS or 48TB SATA, supporting up to 16 hosts for iSCSI attach, 64 hosts for Fibre Channel and up to 256 LUNs. All models support optional software which enables controller-based snapshot and cloning functionality for increased data protection. They come with a choice of host connect interfaces ideally suited for application environments in small and mid-sized businesses, remote offices and as tier-two or tier-three storage for enterprise customers.

Sun Storage 7110 Unified Storage System

This inexpensive storage system has been designed to makes it easier for users to simplify storage issues. The appliance is aimed at enterprise workgroups, remote office or SMBs. Based on industry standard components and open source software, this new storage product is part of the Amber Road storage family, which offers breakthrough analytics with significant performance increases over earlier technology, the vendor claims. It requires only one quarter the amount of energy consumed by competitive systems, can be installed in under five minutes and promises up to 75 per cent cost savings, according to Sun. The iSCSI-based unit features 2TB raw capacity, is based on AMD’s quad-core Opteron chip and has four 10/100/1000 Ethernet ports. It also has six PCIe slots and 8GB of DDR2-667 memory as well as 128-bit capacity and can hold up to 14 SAS drives with 146GB storage space. The system comes with Storage Analytics for debugging and system tuning management.

ProCurve 8212

The ProCurve 8212 is a high performance, enterprise-class datacentre Ethernet chassis. Designed for ultra fault tolerant network solutions, the chassis supports up to 288 ports of 10/100/1000 Ethernet, or 48 ports of 10 gigabit Ethernet. Low latency traffi c handling is combined with an extensive range of quality of service features, to allow mission critical applications and storage traffic to be serviced reliably. Network traffic can be prioritised and bandwidth shaped at layers 2, 3 and 4. Minimum amounts of reserved network bandwidth can easily be allocated to storage and other critical applications. Advanced power management features are also included, allowing network administrators to remotely control power for all devices using PoE. Full function layer 3 routing is included, with support for IPv6. Security features include network access control-based on 802.1x, Web-based authentication, or MAC address. ProCurve switches are covered by free firmware upgrades and free next business day replacement warranty for the life of the product.
