New Software Advancements Keep Japanese Researchers at the Forefront of Global Studies

 • 25 November, 2008 09:57

QSR International and Tokyo based firm Hulinks have launched the first Japanese version of leading qualitative research software NVivo 8. QSR International CEO John Owen said the software will allow Japanese researchers to undertake important research and analysis in their own language, while also facilitating collaboration on global projects.

Mr Owen said the dedicated Japanese version of NVivo 8 recognizes the significance of the Japanese qualitative research industry.
“We delivered the world’s first qualitative research programs in Japanese in 2007 and now we’re bringing the local market the latest and most advanced software available with the release of a dedicated Japanese version of NVivo 8,” he said.

While QSR software has always been able to work with materials in any language, NVivo 8's Japanese interface will give local researchers access to the software's unrivalled audio and visual capabilities for the first time. The new software allows users to work with and analyze virtually any piece of information, from videos, interview recordings and documents, to photos, media clips, podcasts and even music.

“Japanese academics, tourism managers, private investigators, sports coaches, students and market researchers – in fact anyone who uses these materials in their day to day work – can now use NVivo 8 to interpret their information, quickly and easily,"
said QSR International CEO John Owen.

“For Japanese researchers using NVivo 8 software to manage global projects, it means they can work in Japanese but use the same methodology and process as their overseas colleagues. It allows the world’s best minds to work together to undertake important international qualitative research."

QSR International partner, Japanese firm Hulinks, provides training and front line technical support to QSR’s Japanese customers including Kagoshima University.

Hulinks Chairman Yoshimaro Fujisawa said the Japanese language version of NVivo 8 will take Japanese research to a new level.

“NVivo 8 is the only software of its kind in Japanese. Its release will enable our researchers to use the latest and most sophisticated tools in the analysis of important issues like health, economics and social policy. We are proud to be bringing a Japanese version of this product to our customers. ”

NVivo 8's sophisticated analysis tools help researchers interrogate their data - testing out theories, identifying trends and cross-examining information. Professional models and charts can be created, and NVivo project files and results can be shared via mini websites – even with those who don’t have NVivo. The software can also identify the work of individual team members even after separate projects are merged.

NVivo 8 is now available in a range of languages and Japanese users will be able to switch seamlessly between Japanese, English, Spanish and Simplified Chinese interfaces and support materials at any time, without affecting their projects. This makes it ideal for people sharing computer access, for instance colleagues visiting from overseas, or students in university computer labs.

NVivo software is used in international qualitative research projects and has wide ranging applications across virtually every field including academia, tourism, sport, social science and market research. Users include the Children’s Hospital Boston, global law firm CMS Cameron McKenna, the Chronic Poverty Research Centre and virtually every major university in the United States, United Kingdom and Australia.

Purchase the Japanese version of NVivo 8 through Hulinks by visiting their website at or send an email to

Education pricing for the full software package starts at ¥105,000 which includes software maintenance for one year (and sales tax).
