ShoreTel 8.1

This major upgrade to the ShoreTel Personal Call Manager provides unified communications through Professional Call Manager, as well as enhanced support for SIP devices. The systems management toolkit allows customers to simplify deployments by offering two new solutions: A small office voice switch (ShoreGear 30BRI) and a VPN phone solution. Its Call Manager IM feature, meanwhile, is compatible with the upcoming ShoreTel Converged Conferencing 7.1 embedded IM Server. Integration with either Microsoft’s OCS 2007 or LCS 2005 servers is also possible with this release. Improvements have been made to Mobile Call Manager Application, which now supports more mobile devices and languages. Version 8.1 supports the vendor’s new cost-effective, three-line gigabit Ethernet IP Phone, the IP 230g, as well as the new half-width ShoreGear Elk voice switch. The software works with ShoreGear 30, ShoreGear 24A and ShoreGear T1k voice switches. Other features include 128-bit encryption, support for ring-down circuits, and an expanded codec list.

Nortel Secure Router 4134

This router is the newest member of the Secure Router family and is aimed at extending Nortel and Microsoft’s unified communications capabilities to the branch network of an enterprise. Its modular design supports a range of advanced network services – such as IPv4/IPv6 routing, high-performance WAN, high-density Ethernet switching, Power over Ethernet, Voice over IP (VoIP) and security – in a single integrated platform. The vendor claims the 4134 will address the routing and connectivity needs of a branch, regional site or headquarters and is the only device of its kind to integrate Microsoft OCS services. The router can undertake small packet handling, while low latency ensures the quality of multimedia applications. Integrated VoIP and Microsoft capabilities deliver on the promise of the unified communications branch and a wide range of LAN, WAN and multiservice options. The unit supports connectivity to PSTN or traditional telephony devices. Hotswappable modules, redundant power and port/platform resiliency features also deliver maximum uptime, according to Nortel.
