NEC PXT50FHDP1

The first in NEC’s full high-definition plasma range, the PXT-50FHDP1 complements the vendor’s HD range of LCD televisions, providing consumers with more choice for their home entertainment needs. The screen uses recent panel technology generated in Japan to create vivid and clear images, and combines 1920 x 1080 progressive scanning as well as 100Hz refresh rate technology to ensure picture quality is delivered with precision. The PXT50FHDP1 is enhanced with a 30,000:1 contrast ratio. Providing a richer gradation of black imaging, viewers can benefit from more clearly defined images, according to the vendor. Moreover, with a host of standard features including three HDMI inputs, noise reduction, parental guidance, electronic program guide (EPG) and an integrated HD tuner to enable access to high-definition channels, the PXT50FHDP1 is designed to give home users a high quality entertainment experience. The screen has in-built speakers, and users have the option of using a stand, or hanging the TV from a wall. The PXT50FHDP1 comes with a 12-month warranty.

WD ShareSpace

This 4-bay storage system with a gigabit Ethernet (GigE) interface has up to 4TB of storage capacity and multiple RAID configurations. Users can connect the ShareSpace system to their home network to centralise media collections and access them from anywhere in their home. The unit’s iTunes server capability allows users to play music on any Mac or PC using iTunes software. The ShareSpace network storage system offers multiple RAID configurations for data protection and speed such as RAID 0 (striped), RAID 1 (mirrored) and RAID 5. The latter is only available on the 4TB system and is the recommended mode for achieving both high performance and data protection through redundancy. Small office and home network users can use the included software to automatically and continuously backup networked computers. The mirroring capability offered in RAID 1 (mirrored) and RAID 5 modes provides users the added assurance of a redundant backup of data. With WD’s GreenPower drive technology inside, this system consumes 33 per cent less power than standard systems, and remains cool and quiet, according to the vendor.

AOpen G326HT Chassis

AOpen’s G326HT has been designed for the home theatre market and brings the PC system into a user’s living room to provide digital entertainment such as movies, music, games and Internet access through a large format display. From its front panel, it displays headline news updated daily from a news feed, weather information, emails, set timer, an alarm, a graphic EQ, system info, media info and is accessed through a one-touch remote control. The G326HT also delivers good performance at a compact size (263 x 297 x 409mm). It is compatible with both Flex ATX and Micro ATX motherboards and offers tool-free standard PCI slots for installation of high-end graphic cards. The expansion slots are surrounded with a copper shield to improve the EMI level. Front I/O slots include USB 2.0, IEEE1394, stereo audio out, MIC in and an ATX power supply with 12cm fan for cooling and operating. The chassis is made with a strong housing, and with its bend-edges,ensures a smooth, accurate and safe assembly, the vendor claims.
