Getting a grip on ICT spending

Getting a grip on ICT spending

Gershon’s findings could give this industry a shake-up

Just on a side note: The Gershon report also had a green IT success story to tell. In June, the Department of Defence implemented a Green ICT policy and enforced automatic log-off and shut-down across its major PC fleet. Machines left powered on after hours fell from 50,000 to 3000 – a 30,000 tonne drop in greenhouse gas emissions or the equivalent of taking 7500 cars off the road permanently. It also cuts $5 million off Defence’s annual power bill.

It just goes to show how a little bit of thought can go a long way towards improving our carbon footprint.
