LaCie Network Space

Designed by Neil Poulton and weighing 950g, the LaCie Network Space allows users to centralise data and multimedia files and share them among networked computers at home or in a small office. The storage device has an extra USB port that allows users to connect a USB drive or camera and transfer files or photos to the drive. The NAS unit connects to the network via Ethernet through included LaCie Ethernet Agent software. It offers two access methods – one public share that anyone can access and another password-protected private share. Networked computers can access the iTunes library through its iTunes-compliant server support and users can stream music or videos from a networked UPnP AV certified player or adapter. Up to five users can access the LaCie Network Space at a time, and remote access via the Internet is available using FTP. The unit operates on Windows 2000, XP and Vista, as well as Mac OS X 10.3 or higher, and comes in 500GB and 1TB capacities. LaCie also offers a two-year warranty.

Epson EB-W6

This office projector also offers users the benefits of widescreen for watching movies at home. With its 1280 x 800 native WXGA format, the EB-W6 is a high performance projector ideally suited for use with all widescreen output devices such as laptops, DVD players and digital TV receivers. The unit has a stylish design and a range of connection options including an HDMI interface, SD memory card slot and USB port, which can be used for automatic image slideshows. Other features include auto iris functionality, delivering up to 2000:1 contrast ratio, and an in-built 7 watt speaker. The projector also comes configured with a host of time saving features including a five second start-up time, two second source search, one second auto keystone correction and an automatic USB connect and display which eliminates the need to configure a connection via the computer. There’s also an instant off function with no cool down required. The EB-W6 can be ceiling mounted, measures 245 x 327 x 92mm and weighs 2.8kg.

Dialogue Flybook V5 Business

Designed with Intel’s “Airline Friendly” concept in mind, and with small dimensions and weight (23.5 x 16.3 x 3.0cm and 1.2kg), the Flybook V5 is an ultra-mobile machine aimed at business users. The vendor claims it is based on an ergonomic design, with a keyboard and main control keys built in such a way that it can be easily used while standing. The Flybook V5 has a number of in-built connectivity technologies including W-LAN, W-WWAN, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, as well as a touchscreen. It runs off an ULV Intel Core 2 Duo processor and Microsoft Windows Vista Business. The Flybook has an integrated cellular system, which offers the highest security level, Dialogue claims. In case of theft, its International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) code allows the immediate localisation of the user’s computer. The Flybook has a magnesium-alloy cover and SunLight readable screen and is available with a 120GB hard drive or 64GB solid-state drive and up to 4GB of RAM. It also has a fingerprint reader and a 1.3 megapixel Web cam.
