EDS will cut 75 Australian staff over the next five weeks as part of restructuring plans announced following its acquisition by HP.

Spokesperson, Tamara Plakalo, was not at liberty to disclose where the cuts would take place but denied media reports the move was a result of business performance. Instead she said the Australian cuts were part of a previously announced restructuring program.

“The restructuring program was announced as something that would take place over three years and would include a workforce reduction to streamline the company’s services business,” she said.

“In that statement we said the integration timelines will vary by country and will be based on separate timelines and legal requirements.”

In early September, HP announced it would layoff 24,600 staff as a result of the acquisition in a move forecast to save the vendor $US1.8 billion each year.

Plakalo said no decision had been made on whether future cuts would be made in Australia.

Last week, the company said it would cut 3378 jobs in the UK.
