JB Hi-Fi signed up to boost TiVo Christmas sales

Hybrid Television Services, the exclusive licensee of TiVo products in Australia and New Zealand, has signed up JB Hi-Fi to sell the TiVo.

The TiVO HD box will be able to store at least 60 hours of standard-definition content and 20 hours of high-definition content.

TiVo’s retail reach within Australia is expanding after the Seven Media Group announced Thursday that JB Hi-Fi will this month commence selling the product in its stores.

JB Hi-Fi joins TiVio launch partner Harvey Norman, which has had the exclusive rights to sell TiVo since its launch in Australia on July 29.

“Australian consumers today are quite savvy and willing to invest in digital devices that will stay relevant over time as well as bring ongoing services and benefits. We believe the TiVo media device will achieve this”, said Richard Uechtritz, CEO of JB Hi-Fi in a statement.

The TiVo media device is a high definition set top box and recorder, allowing users to simultaneously record up to two free-to-air TV channels and watch a third channel live.

“We are pleased to welcome JB Hi-Fi into the fold of retailers for our all-important first year of Christmas trading,” said Hybrid Television Services’ CEO, Robbee Minicola. Hybrid Television Services is a subsidiary of the Seven Media Group

TiVo will be available in 100 JB Hi-Fi and Clive Anthony stores across Australia and will continue to retail at the launch price of $699.
