The ASUS S5N notebook weighs only 1.38kg. Some models are only 17mm thick. The battery lasts up to 8.5 hours. The notebook is now a symbol of mobile computing as well as a fashion statement. This one comes in two colours, Galaxy Black using the Intel Pentium M Processor with 1.5GHz under the Centrino platform and Pearl White with the ULV Intel Pentium M 1GHz. The screen is a 12.1-inch XGA TFT display supported by Intel 855GME embedded graphics. Both units have an External Slim Combo Optical with CD and DVD and Rewrite capabilities plus a free ASUS Ai-Flash thumb drive as a floppy drive alternative. It also comes bundled with the Windows XP Professional operating system. The ASUS S5N is distributed by Achieva Technology, Ingram Micro and Cassa.

HP nx9010

Targetted at small-to-medium enterprises, the HP nx9010 notebook is designed for mobile professionals. It features the Intel Pentium 4 mobile processor 3.06GHz, 533MHz front side bus and 512KB of L2 cache. Sporting a 15-inch SXGA+ display, the notebook has 512MB (266MHz) of DDR SDRAM, 4X AGP and ATI Mobility Radeon graphics processor, 60GB hard drive and DVD+RW drive. The nx9010 features integrated Intel Pro 802.11b WLAN and integrated 56K ACLink modem and 10/100 NIC combo connectivity and runs Windows XP Professional. As part of a promotion, it is being offered with a free HP iPAQ H2210 pocket PC (valued at $699). The HP nx9010 is distributed by Tech Pacific, Ingram Micro and Dicker Data.

LG LS50-1

New entrant into the notebook market, LG Electronics, has released the LG LS50-1, a slimline notebook that boasts a battery life of up to 10 hours. Weighing in at 2.5kg, the notebook features the Intel Pentium M processor 1.4GHz, 256MB of DDR and a 15-inch XGA display (1024 x 768). It has a 40GB hard drive, an ATI Mobility Radeon 9200 graphics processor and DVD/CD-RW combo optical drive. The LG LS50-1 offers LAN and wireless connectivity with its Intel Pro/Wireless Mini LAN Card 802.11b pre-installed, 56Kbps V.92 MDC modem and 10/100, 3Com 3C920 Network Interface. The notebook runs Microsoft Windows XP operating system and come with full version Norton Anti-Virus 2004 as standard. Contact LG to locate your nearest distributor.

Acer TravelMate C300

Touted as the first ever convertible Tablet PC incorporating a 14.1-inch screen with pen input and inbuilt optical drive design, Acer’s TravelMate C300 has a convertible screen that adjusts quickly and easily between notebook and tablet mode. It weighs 2.74kg and has a battery life of up to seven hours. The C300 features the Intel Pentium M processor 1.4GHz, DDR333 SDRAM, 60GB hard drive and DVD x CD/RW drive. It offers integrated Bluetooth, integrated Gigabit (10/100/1000) networking and 56Kbps modem. One of the new features of the TravelMate C300 is a light sensor that measures ambient lighting and automatically adjusts screen brightness to suit the light conditions. Users may choose to adjust the lighting manually, and the light sensor software will save the setting to be used the next time similar light conditions occur. Toshiba Portégé M200 Tablet PC

The Portégé M200 Tablet PC is designed for busy executives and field or sales staff who value the quick results of pen-based input. It features the Intel Pentium M processor 1.4GHz with 1MB of L2 cache, the Intel 855PM chipset and 400MHz front side bus. Toshiba claims the 12.1-inch polysilicon screen features enhanced resolution of 1400 x 1050 displaying up to 87 per cent more detail than other tablets. Weighing 2.1kg, the M200 has a battery life of up to 4.5 hours. It has a 60GB hard disk, 512MB of PC2700 DDR, nVidia GeForce FX Go5200 graphics card with 32MB dedicated VRAM. Tablet PC features a V.92 modem, Intel 82562ET 10/100 Ethernet and integrated wireless Intel 802.11b. The optional Tablet Multi Dock station lets users plug in an external keyboard and monitor, so they can run two different applications on separate screens at the same time.
