Poll shows PC users considering Mac

A recent poll conducted by US-based BusinessWeek Online suggests that almost half of those surveyed may be considering a switch from Windows-based PCs to Macintoshes. The results of the poll were recently posted in an article entitled "PC to Apple?"

Nearly 1,800 people responded to the poll, and about 800 said they would consider switching from a Windows PC to the Mac. That's significant, according to the survey, considering around 38 per cent, or 675 respondents, said they didn't own a Mac in the first place. The publication stresses that the poll isn't scientific -- it was entirely voluntary and took place during the last week of March.

BusinessWeek Online explained that the respondents consisted of people who have both Macs and PCs in some cases, or perhaps there was some ballot-stuffing from Mac users. Either way, the publication said, one thing is clear: Macs engender fiercer loyalty than PCs do.

More than half of those polled who would consider a new Mac have their eye on Apple Computer's flat-panel iMac. About one in five would think about a Power Mac G4, and about 13.5 per cent are considering a PowerBook G4, according to the results of the poll. Only about 6.5 per cent of BusinessWeek's poll respondents are thinking about an iBook.
