Network integrator, NSC Group, has launched an on-the-job development program for cadets called The NSC Academy.
The aim is to prepare cadets for future technical roles within the company. Human resources manager, Michelle Natoli, said NSC had experienced significant growth over the years and the Academy would help with its future expansion plans. Courses covered in the program include online Avaya accreditations, ITSM and ITIL foundation training.
"Once the cadets go through the program we'll be able to offer more choices and a career path within NSC," she said. "It also enhances our Avaya skills, which can be difficult to obtain, so it's easier for us to train them up ourselves."
Each cadet will spend three months at a time with a senior team member in technical areas such as pre-sales, professional services, field support and service desk. They will also receive training in customer relationship management and business communications.
"To give cadets more of a career choice, we thought we would place them within more aspects of the business," Natoli said. "It also gives us the ability to work out where their strengths are."
The cadet program will run for 12 months and all new recruits will report to Natoli.
"I can make sure that they've been given appropriate things to do that's helping them learn," she said.
Yue Liu is the first cadet to join the program this month, and another person will begin in October. NSC plans to have four cadets join the program this year and eight in the following year.
