- 31 July, 2008 12:42

The new MC8790 HSPA module offers a cost-effective solution for developers while providing an extensive feature set and high-end functionality that Sierra Wireless customers have come to expect from Sierra Wireless modules.

The MC8790 is designed for developers integrating mobile broadband capabilities into modems, notebook computers, fixed wireless terminals and routers for vertical markets. Tri-band HSPA support and receive diversity on all bands make the module globally compatible, enabling developers to concentrate development efforts on a single product for global markets.
“With the introduction of the MC8790 we have focused efforts on bringing costs down, while continuing to provide the support customers need to get wireless technology integrated into their devices and out to market as quickly as possible. We believe that this balance of cost, quality, and support is the best solution for our customers”, said Trent Punnett, senior vice president, Marketing and Corporate Development, for Sierra Wireless.

The MC8790 is available for developers for integration and commercial sale from August 2008. Key Features of Sierra Wireless MC8790
• Peak data speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps (megabits per second) on the downlink and 2.0 Mbps on the uplink (future upgradeable to 5.76 Mbps)
• Tri-band HSPA/UMTS and quad-band support for EDGE/GPRS/GSM network access for roaming on high-speed networks worldwide
