Toshiba Tecra M2 – setting the benchmark for business

Delivering the best balance of performance specifications, innovative industrial design and lowest cost of ownership makes Tecra M2 series the ideal corporate mobile computing platform

Sydney, 23 February 2004 – Mobile computing leader, Toshiba (Australia) Pty. Limited, Information Systems Division (ISD) today introduced its next generation light weight notebook, the new Tecra M2 series - for corporate and small-to-medium sized business customers who demand mobility and connectivity without sacrificing performance. The notebook is also ideal for IT managers and enterprise fleet managers who require a stable, configurable notebook with a long product lifecycle.

General Manager for Toshiba ISD Ralph Stadus said: "We believe that this range of notebooks represents a true business benchmark that others will strive to achieve. This range will appeal to fleet buyers whether they are considering the purchase of two or three units or two to three thousand. We have distilled almost 20 years of mobile customer experience into this outstanding product.”

"Toshiba recognises that by reducing the cost and complexity of notebook PC ownership, whilst increasing performance and functionality, is critical to IT professionals and SMB customers," said Mark Whittard, National Marketing Manager, Toshiba ISD. "Our continued investment in the Tecra brand - including advanced wireless connectivity, long battery life and a light-weight form factor-- reaffirm Toshiba's commitment to providing high performance notebooks that businesses of all sizes can appreciate."

Toshiba continues to build on its reputation for reducing total cost of ownership (TCO) by sharing common docking and Slim SelectBay accessories with most Tecra/Portégé products. By reducing the qualification time required for differing components, this compatibility along with Tecra’s stable platform, long life cycle and consistent software image allows IT managers to standardise hardware throughout their corporate enterprise. The end result is simplified product procurement; therefore further lowering the total cost of ownership with reduced support and inventory costs.

The Tecra M2 delivers a balance of portability, hardware and image stability plus high performance. Building on the success of the Tecra M1, the new thin and light design features include a magnesium alloy chassis to provide added durability whilst making it the lightest in its class at only 2.26kg. Combined with extended battery life of up to 11 hours, this makes the Tecra M2 the ideal road-ready business notebook.

Featuring the Intel® Pentium® M Processor up to 1.7GHz, the Tecra M2 Series is available in four configurations including high speed, high capacity hard drives (up to 80GB), DVD-CDRW or DVD-multi optical drives, memory capacity up to 2MB, industry-leading 3D graphics with nVIDIA and high speed communications such as G-bit Ethernet, iLink, Bluetooth and 802.11a/b wireless. These features provide customers with a foundation to significantly boost business productivity and choice of connectivity.

Toshiba’s bundled software suite also extends functionality and assists in the ease of deployment and support. ConfigFree™ software is pre-installed to simplify automatic connection to multiple wired and wireless network profiles for users moving between various work locations and can diagnose any connection problems. Microsoft One Note, a note-taking and management program can organise all your thoughts, files and data. Toshiba IP phone to evaluate VoIP solutions across corporate networks is also included.
