Juniper Networks has hired Mark Prior as its director for the Asia-Pacific research and education networking business.
He replaces Mark Williams, who has taken up another role within Juniper to assist strategic partner, IBM.
Prior will be responsible for the vendor's relationships with research and educational organisations and their channel partners.
"It's more a liaison role between Juniper and the research and education community within Asia-Pacific," he said. "In the past I've seen the ISV community and the academic community don't really communicate all that well.
"They share the same sort of problem set and I think part of my role is to interact between those two groups and share solutions to their common problems."
Prior's first focus will be to find out what customers are doing, what their problems are and how they can be solved.
"There's a move in a number of large universities to replace the main networking core and upgrade to 10G Ethernet," he said. "There will also be an opportunity for me to work with channel partners."
Before joining Juniper, Prior was CTO of internet service provider, AARNet.
