Mercury gets Extreme

Extreme Networks will work with managed data services company Mercury Connect to provide next-generation fibre-optic Gigabit Ethernet connections to Brisbane companies using broadband Layer 3 switches.

Mercury Connect has connected the AXA building and Central Plaza One in Brisbane's CBD to an Ethernet-based IP network and has plans to connect more buildings across Australia, including Sydney and Melbourne.

Mark Garlipp, technical director for Mercury Connect, said the company partnered with Extreme Networks because of the simplicity of the offering, the ease of the network's implementation and the pricing it could offer customers by using the technology.

Cabletron finalises spin-offs

Networking and telecommunications vendor Cabletron has announced it expects to establish Enterasys as an independent public company by August, following the spin off of service provider switch-maker Riverstone Networks.

Cabletron's software arm, Aprisma, will likewise be established as a separate company. The vendor has begun the regulatory filings necessary for the move and expects to spin off Aprisma no later than the end of this year.

With respect to IT services arm GlobalNetwork Technology Services, Cabletron expects to announce either a sale or "other disposition" by mid-July.
