Sun StorEdge 6920
The Sun StorEdge 6920 is a third-party storage virtualisation engine for mid-market organisations. It provides data services such as point in time copying and remote replication to existing storage, without disrupting existing data. Designed to support growing storage requirements, the system can integrate up to 256 vendor storage assets into a single modular system. In a suite of high availability data services for business continuity, the Sun StorEdge 6920 can be deployed across platforms to implement new capabilities on existing storage, without disrupting existing data. The Sun StorEdge 3510 is distributed in Australia by Alstom IT.
RRP: The standard configuration for the Sun StorEdge 6920 system starts at $279,800 and includes 2TB of storage, 36GB disk and 15K drives.
Adaptec Snap Server 18000
The Adaptec Snap Server lets users share files, implement an IP SAN, and consolidate servers and centralise backup. The 18000 includes iSCSI target support, enabling block services while providing cross-platform file sharing over Ethernet. Snap Servers also include BakBone software for virtual tape libraries and disk-to-disk-to-tape backup, CA eTrust Anti-Virus and centralised management tools. There is also an option to purchase the Snap Enterprise Data Replicator (Snap EDR), a network-optimised software solution for distributing, protecting and reporting on business-critical information throughout a distributed enterprise. The product is distributed by ACA Pacific and Lan 1.
RRP: The Snap Server 18000 starts at $21,764; the Snap EDR is optional at $6142
Cisco MDS 9216i
The Cisco MDS 9216i shares an architecture with the Cisco MDS 9500 series, and can integrate with both Fibre Channel and IP Storage Services in a single system to allow flexibility in user configurations. With 14 2Gbps Fibre Channel ports, two Gigabit Ethernet IP Storage Services ports, and a modular expansion slot, the Cisco MDS 9216i is suited for enterprise storage networks that require high performance SAN extension or cost-effective IP Storage connectivity. The expansion slot on the Cisco MDS 9216i allows for the addition of any Cisco MDS 9000 Family module, so users can add additional Fibre Channel ports and additional IP ports. Alternatively, the expansion slot may be used for a variety of Cisco MDS 9000 Family Services Modules, thereby providing a level of storage services in a single, 3-rack unit system. As the storage network expands further, Cisco MDS 9000 Family modules can be removed from Cisco MDS 9216i switches and migrated into Cisco MDS 9500 Series Multilayer Directors. The product is sold to resellers via Cisco's storage partners including EMC, HDS, IBM, HP and StorageTek.

StorageTek FlexLine FLX380
The FLX380 storage system integrates 4-gigabit-per-second Fibre Channel (FC) connectivity, FC or high-capacity Serial ATA (SATA) disk drives, and storage management functionality. Added to the FlexLine product array, the storage system continues FlexLine's storage heritage of a modular, building block design enabling lower acquisition and expansion costs, while maintaining maximum flexibility. The FLX380 controller houses the dual-active, intelligent RAID controllers, provides eight 4-gigabit-per-second host connections and supports up to 224 Fibre Channel or SATA disk drives. Redundant controllers and a host-based failover driver provide automated I/O path protection and gives continued data access. The product is distributed by ACA Pacific.
RRP: The FLX380 costs $200,000 for an array with 2TB of capacity.
Western Digital Caviar SE16
The Western Digital Caviar SE16 hard drives feature a 16 MB cache - two to eight times the cache size of standard desktop-class hard drives, according to the company - and offers a 300Mbps transfer rate. The desktop-class hard drive is ideal for use in high-performance computers, multimedia and gaming systems. The hard drives feature advanced acoustics for quiet operation to reduce noise and extend long-term reliability in the variety of applications using these drives today, the company said. Rotating at 7200rpm, the new drives are available with 250GB capacity and are covered by a three-year warranty. Additional features include: WhisperDrive technology, whereby noise levels are virtually below the threshold of human hearing; SoftSeek technology, which streamlines read/write seeking algorithms. Lower power consumption through its electronics and firmware design means the operating temperature of the WD Caviar SE16 drives is much cooler resulting in enhanced drive reliability. All WD Caviar hard drives protect users' data with the addition of Data Lifeguard embedded error detection and repair features, which automatically detect, isolate and repair problem areas that may develop over the extended use of the hard drive. The product is distributed in Australia by Achieva Technology, Synnex, Ingram Micro and Westan.
