DiData bets on security courses

Stealing a march on some of its competitors, Dimension Data Learning Solutions, the training and education arm of the Dimension Data Group, has announced two new vendor-specific training courses focused on IT security.

As well as its generic five-day security courses and specific certification courses for Cisco and Check Point firewall products, DiData has signed new agreements with Symantec and Sophos Anti-Virus for a range of new courses. Unlike the Cisco and Check Point training, however, these new courses will be exclusive to Dimension Data.

Dimension Data general manager Steve Ross said the two new courses again spring from the healthy relationships the group has developed with its vendor partners in its IT services and distribution (i.e. Express Data) divisions.

Although Ross is hesitant to "talk up" the IT security threat, he acknowledges that security courses and products tend to withstand the turbulence of the market. "Companies tend not to hesitate when it comes to security and the integrity of their data," he said. "Security is an area we will continue to grow."

The Symantec courses were trialled just before Christmas and now all six courses are running. The one-day Sophos Anti-Virus course, which Ross said was fairly generic in nature, begins on April 19.
