Activision not shabby with Shaba buy

Electronic games publisher Activision has strengthened its development capabilities for new consoles such as Microsoft's Xbox and Nintendo's GameCube with the acquisition of Shaba Games.

The stock-swap deal sees Shaba shareholders receive 258,621 shares in Activision's common stock, with up to 68,965 additional shares on offer depending on the satisfaction of certain performance criteria over several years.

The agreement also sees key Shaba management and staff sign long-term contracts with Activision. And it's the retention of these skills that will benefit Activision most, with Shaba developers responsible for numerous popular action sports and fantasy games such as Soul Reaver, Legacy if Kain, and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3.
