It appears the preservation of personal reputations in the top tiers of the business world forced more than 10 staff to walk the plank into redundancy . . . Early on the first morning, after a lively and late-for-some welcome dinner, the MC - a fairly recent recruit and former long-time Amdahl employee - was looking a little, well, RS. In the welcoming preamble, before his division's US-based VP kicked off the show with his keynote speech, he three times uttered the word "Amdahl" where "Compaq" was meant to be. Much embarrassment from the rostrum and much mirth from the floor ensued. The visiting VP was obviously knocked off his feet as he proceeded to trip on his way up the stairs . . . Which former CEO at a leading distributor is looking for a way back into the channel? Tabloid hears this channel identity has some cashed up partners in tow as they troll the channel for acquisition opportunities working on the theory a depressed market brings bargains . . .
