SquizBiz takes home coveted Innovation Award

 • 29 August, 2003 17:00

Momentum Technologies Group’s SquizBiz™ last night won the award for Innovation at CommsWorld’s Telecomms Awards 2003. MTG, a small IT start-up based in Melbourne, took on larger companies such as Virgin Mobile, Foursticks and mNet, to win for SquizBiz, its revolutionary hardware and software package that converts a video camera into a wireless streaming media system.

“It’s such an enormous challenge to design and produce a new, innovative technology such as ours in Australia. It takes a lot of creativity, energy, commitment and support. And support is exactly what awards like this provide,” said Managing Director Adele Whish-Wilson. “To a young company like ours, the value of this recognition can’t be underestimated.”

MTG’s SquizBiz also received an honourable mention in the recent Australian Telecommunications Users Group (ATUG) awards. This recognition comes before the first fully commercial version of SquizBiz has even been released. The Hon. Minister Brumby will launch SquizBiz at a date yet to be finalised.

“We’re certainly very excited about this recognition leading up to our product launch,” said Ms Whish-Wilson. “We know we’ve got a fantastic product that is a world first, and now it’s all systems go for us. We’re moving from product development to getting our product in the hands of users.”

SquizBiz has many applications and is currently being used to: broadcast events over the Internet; increase sales (wholesale and retail); provide remote technical support; enable e-learning; provide communication between offices; diagnose animal illnesses remotely; enable supplier–client communications; and much more.

The CommsWorld’s awards ceremony was held at Four Points by Sheraton in Sydney’s Darling Harbour. In attendance were major telecommunications players such as Vodafone, Telstra, Optus, Marconi, Siemens, AAPT, Virgin and Nortel. Winners were announced during dinner, culminating in the ‘big ones’ the Award for Innovation and the Sir Ernest Fisk Award.

MTG was one of only 19 companies awarded a Telstra Broadband Fund Grant in February this year. The Grant has already helped MTG bring SquizBiz to the market, sooner.
