Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, the movie, has earned $US926.1 million in worldwide ticket sales, topping Star Wars: Episode I -- The Phantom Menace to become the second-highest grossing movie ever worldwide. And, in great timing, Aspyr Media is now shipping the Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone game for the Mac.
It's based on the hit series by J.K. Rowling, and licensed by Aspyr Media from Electronic Arts. The Mac conversion, which runs on Mac OS X, was done by Westlake Interactive.
In the game you can explore Hogwarts (the school of magic) while solving puzzles, casting spells, battling foes and uncovering secrets. Players interact with more than 20 characters from Rowling's world, including Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley and Rubeus Hagrid.
You collect Wizard Cards, Chocolate Frogs and Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans. You can play Quidditch on your Nimbus Two Thousand (if you're a Potter fan, you'll know what we're talking about) and even win house points for Gryffinor. Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone also includes a special Harry Potter trading card game foil-stamped card inside, according to Michael Rogers, president of Aspyr.
The game is rated "E" (Everyone) by the ESRB. It has a suggested retail price of $29.99. You'll need a Power Mac running Mac OS 8.6/9.x (with the CarbonLib extensions installed) or Mac OS X to play it.
