HP Claims Top Position in Notebook Market for Q2

SYDNEY, SEPTEMBER 04, 2003 Strong sales in the corporate and small to medium business (SMB) sectors, have propelled Hewlett Packard (HP) to the number one position in the Australian notebook market for Q2. According to the latest figures from IDC, HP's market share increased to 22.2 per cent in Q2, up from 20.9 per cent the previous quarter.

"HP benefited from strong demand for its desktop replacement products as both end users and organisations took advantage of new benchmarks in price and performance", said Imraan Ali, Market Analyst, Personal Computers, IDC Australia.

Sylvia Vasas, Market Development Manager for commercial notebooks and tablet PCs, HP Australia put the success down to the breadth of products offered by HP, as well as support from channel partners during the quarter.

"In the Australian market we have clearly developed and executed a successful strategy, utilising the strengths of our partners to deliver HP's broad portfolio of notebooks to customers across all industry segments," said Vasas.

"These results indicate that our powerful, flexible and wireless ready notebooks, are striking the right chord with customers from SMBs, right through to the enterprise."

According to Nicholas Lynch, Market Development Manager for consumer notebooks, HP Australia's positive growth in consumer notebooks is also a contributor to the strong overall Q2 performance.

"From basic computing features, to wireless connectivity, to the latest in technology for the gaming and multimedia enthusiast, customers continue to rely on HP for their technology solutions," said Lynch.

"During the previous quarter HP offered a variety of mobile technology offerings at competitive prices, which, combined with well targeted promotional activities by our retail partners, ensured a solid result."

HP attributes the recent growth in notebook market share to a combination of aggressive pricing, strong performance and commitment from channel partners, regular and consistent communication with all customer segments, strong customer relationships and promotions that met the specific needs of consumers and business customers.

In the coming quarter, HP will focus on building upon its market leadership, and will bolster its notebook range with several new consumer and commercial models.
