Cisco gets real

RealNetworks' RealSystem iQ Internet broadcasting software will be offered by Cisco Systems as part of the network equipment manufacturer's content networking product family (switches and routers).

The resale agreement between the two companies is targeted at large businesses, as well as Internet service providers (ISPs) and network service providers.

RealSystem iQ is used to broadcast audio and video over the Internet or a company intranet, supporting over 45 media types.

Tibco in-a-box

Tibco Software has announced a "business-to-business in a box" solution at its Strategic Directions 2001 conference in Las Vegas, outlining its future outlook to users and partners.

Tibco is focusing on integration with the Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE) and Microsoft's .Net platforms, and pushing toward more standards-based collaboration. Tibco is also preparing its products for Web services, although officials said Web services are only a subset of the company's integration play.

Veritas eases Web traffic

Veritas Software has announced new traffic management software for clustered Web and application servers developed to improve their availability and uptime.

Veritas Cluster Server Traffic Director lets customers manage front-end Web and application servers and redirect traffic at specific transactions or applications based on content, regardless of application or server platform. It also provides priority to critical traffic.

The new software is expected to be available in the third quarter of this year.
