Dimension Data has become the first Cisco Systems partner in the Asia-Pacific to achieve a newly revised "IP Telephony Specialisation".
Cisco two years ago introduced several specialisations around core technology offerings such as IP telephony, VPN/security and wireless LAN to enable Cisco's leading partners to differentiate themselves from their competitors.
At the time, Dimension Data was Australia's first certified Australian integrator under Cisco's original IP Telephony Specialisation. In a case of history repeats, Dimension Data has re-created that feat in meeting significantly tougher requirements to achieve the IP Telephony Revised Specialisation accreditation.
Under the revised specialisation, partners must have six IP telephony specialised engineers on staff, up from three in the original specialisation. Engineers also have to undergo tougher exams covering Cisco's Call Manager, IP Telephones, the Media Convergence Server Family and Unity technologies. Specialisations do not require specific revenue targets.
Speaking from Cisco's annual world partner conference in the US, Kip Cole, Cisco Systems' channel director, told ARN the revised specialisation reflects the progression in Cisco's IP telephony technology. He said it also provides partners that reach the revised accreditation with the ability to demonstrate to prospective customers their skill in implementing solutions.
Cole said revised accreditation levels will apply to other specialisations.
Last year, Dimension Data won Cisco's Australia/New Zealand Partner of the Year award.
