PC Solutions Briefs: Hercules, Transmeta, Ingram, Toshiba

Hercules collaborates on sound technologiesHercules has announced a commercial collaboration with Analog Devices to develop a new generation of audio solutions based on SoundMAX and Communications Network Riser (CNR) card technologies. The companies got together to deliver a low-cost solution for Athlon, Pentium III and Pentium 4 computer motherboards equipped with CNR. This enables the integration of Hercules' audio cards into systems by PC OEMs and system integrators.

Transmeta slashes Q2 chip sales forecastsChipmaker Transmeta has cut its second-quarter revenue forecast almost in half, blaming economic woes in Japan where it does much of its business.

Transmeta now expects revenue for the three months ending June 30 to be 40-45 per cent less than the $US18.6 million it reported in its fiscal first quarter. As recently as April, Transmeta predicted its second-quarter revenue would be slightly above the first-quarter level.

Ingram takes on team for Toshiba notebooksHaving secured the Toshiba distribution and Roger Bushell from CHA, Ingram Micro has also taken on Rajendra (Reggie) Prasad to work with its new product range.

Prasad has been appointed Toshiba product manager, having spent the past 12 years working with Toshiba products at CHA. Both Bushell and Prasad will be based at Ingram Micro's Melbourne office.

Ingram Micro managing director Steve Rust predicts the Toshiba account will grow the distributor's sales by more than $50 million.
