Ingram Micro pitches for HP business

Distributor Ingram Micro Australia has made an aggressive pitch to stay on as a broadbased distributor for the new HP, forming a new business unit to deal specifically with the vendor.

The distributor has combined the resources of both its Compaq and HP teams into a consolidated division to be managed by group product manager Iain Pringle.

Pringle said the business unit includes product managers for systems, enterprise and printer/consumables divisions, as well as asset managers, product specialists, a marketing executive and dedicated business development managers.

The new HP is currently operating with all the broadbased distributors that had previously distributed either the HP or Compaq brand. But the management of the merged entity has indicated that this situation will come under review in the coming months - leaving the likes of Ingram Micro, Tech Pacific, Digiland, Dicker Data and Express Data competing for the vendor's business.
