Symantec Positioned in the Leaders Quadrant of Magic Quadrant for Data Loss Prevention

SYDNEY, Australia – 23 June 2008 – Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC) today announced that it has been positioned by Gartner, Inc. in the leaders quadrant in the 2008 Magic Quadrant for Content Monitoring and Filtering and Data Loss Prevention. [1] Vontu Data Loss Prevention 8, now from Symantec, is an integrated data loss prevention (DLP) solution that combines endpoint and network-based technology to prevent the loss of confidential data wherever it is stored or used. Vontu DLP 8 is a key component in Symantec’s product strategy to secure and manage the world’s information.

According to the report, "We have long believed that integrated network, endpoint and discovery capabilities — with a centralised management console capable of distributing a consistent set of policies, and providing usable event analysis and workflow for alerting on and remediating violations — was the ultimate goal and destination of this market."

“With proven customer deployments at the largest global enterprises and an integrated suite to prevent the loss of confidential data wherever it is stored or used, across endpoint, network and storage systems, we are pleased that Gartner positioned us in the leaders quadrant,” said Joseph Ansanelli, vice president of data loss prevention solutions at Symantec. “Following the acquisition by Symantec, the team has continued its track record of success with the on-time delivery of Vontu DLP 8 and is continuing to innovate as well as leverage Symantec's market leading solutions -- such as endpoint management – to streamline the customer experience.”

Gartner, Inc.'s Magic Quadrant positions vendors in a particular market segment based on their ability to execute and completeness of vision. The report explains that “leaders have demonstrated a good understanding of client needs and offer comprehensive capabilities in all three functional areas, including network, discovery and endpoint directly or through well-established partnerships and tight integration. They offer aggressive road maps, but they will need to execute on those road maps, fully incorporate enhanced features being developed and address evolving market needs to remain in the Leaders Quadrant..” The full report is available at:
