Intel is once again taking its channel offerings on a national tour with a series of events for the local PC assembly community taking in all major metropolitan centres in the lead-up to Christmas.
Philip Cronin, Intel's area sales manager, channel and distribution, said he is expecting more than 1,500 attendees at the travelling Intel Channel Conference. This makes the events "vital" to the Intel channel marketing plan.
The theme of the events will centre on "showcasing Intel technology and directions in the next 6-9 months", Cronin said.
"[These events are] our way of sharing information from the top to the bottom of the channel," he added. "Our channel partners get to see the latest technologies, future technologies, roadmaps and technical training.
"This year we have also started to showcase some of the more exceptional work that is being undertaken by some of our channel partners in areas such as servers and laptops."
Cronin said that the roadshow, which the vendor has been running twice a year for the last 10 years, will be the first opportunity for most Genuine Intel Dealers (GIDs) to see the new Pentium 4/3.06 CPUs. This is Intel's first commercial processor to exceed 3GHz and will be launched on November 15.
Most events will also include supporting demonstrations from complementary suppliers including Dataram, Seagate, Logitech and others, according to Cronin.
"This is to demonstrate the whole ecosystem of products and not just to say this is the latest CPU," Cronin said.
The events are for GIDs only. Pre-registration is required and this can be done at http://intel.seminars.net/icc/. Partners will require their unique GID identification number to register.
Food and beverages will be supplied and the events run from 5:30pm until "about 8:00pm", according to Cronin, with registration pick-up available from 5:00pm. Lucky door prizes will also be given away at each event.
