New Zealand-based storage management start up B&R Holdings has announced a new service that enables corporate users to back up and recover data via the Internet.
Customers download the client software free and then pay around $NZ35 per month for 250MB of compressed storage, which is stored at B&R's data warehouses. The data is secured using a 448-bit encryption key across the Net.
The Data Sanctuary Online Backup Service is designed to make corporate backups easier and more cost-effective without tying up network bandwidth, backup tapes and physical storage.
B&R is also looking to franchise the service to other resellers which could then brand the service as one of their own. B&R uses FastBIT software to compress data, and only backs up changes to files periodically, rather than backing up the whole file every time. http://www.backupserver.co.nz.
