Flybook lands in Australia

Dialogue Technology looks to take on distributors as it targets its ultraportable PCs at the mobile corporate market

Niche notebook vendor, Dialogue Technology, is looking for distributors as it moves into the Australian market for the first time.

Dialogue Technology produces the Flybook V5 ultraportable UMPC and Flybook VM notebook, both aimed at corporate users regularly away from the office. The products are based on Italian design and are produced in Taiwan.

The company sells through distributors across several regions worldwide including Europe, Taiwan, the US and Japan. Dialogue Technology Australian correspondent, Laura Cozzolino, said it was aiming for up to three distributors locally.

"Our products are niche products, so we're looking for distributors who are reliable and focused on quality," she said.

Flybook products feature an ULV Intel Core 2 Duo processor, full connectivity (W-LAN, W-WWAN, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth), touchscreen, security access and weigh 1.2kg.

Cozzolino said the products had been designed with an Intel "Airline Friendly" concept in mind.

According to Cozzolino, the closest competing vendors in this space were Fujitsu and the ultraportable Sony Vaio notebooks, though the Flybook products are more focused on its target audience.

This is the first time the Flybook has been sold in Australia. Cozzolino said the notebooks were displayed at CeBit 2005, but the local launch of the range had been delayed.

The vendor is now in the process of establishing a Victorian branch, she said.

"We're currently established in Italy, Taiwan, the US and Japan and we're also expanding into the Middle East and Africa," Cozzolino said.
