Acer accelerates into Formula 1

Acer has become the official supplier of computer hardware to the Lucky Strike British American Racing (BAR) Honda team.

As well as supplying the IT hardware that helps very fast cars go faster, Acer has also become a corporate sponsor of the team.

The partnership has been described as "long-term" and took effect at the last Grand Prix held in Spain on April 28, 2002.

"I am delighted to welcome Acer to the team as a Corporate Partner. State-of-the-art technology and its reliable application are critical in the demanding environment of Formula 1. Acer will, without doubt, make a significant contribution to driving BAR to the front of the field," said David Richards, BAR Team principal.

Corporate sponsorships of Formula 1 racing syndicates has become critical to the longevity of the sport, as the cost of maintaining, developing and racing these cars can run into the hundreds of millions.
