Simms International has expanded its Sydney premises as it embarks on formulating a retail strategy.
According to managing director, Danny Moore, the move is a significant expansion for the distributor, which had been experiencing growth across its Apple business, as well as its VMware Fusion and Western Digital (WD) lines.
The new premises are located in the same Herbert St, St Leonards, NSW, building as its former offices, and measure 3000sqm.
"It's an open plan office, which is important to the culture of our business," Moore said.
The distributor had also invested more than $1 million in upgrading its ERP infrastructure, which will be fully rolled out on July 1.
"It provides us with more scalability, flexibility and EDI capability," Moore said. "You've got to manage that growth in this nervous channel community at the moment. There are pockets of success in business but there are also larger pockets of challenge, there's no doubt about it.
"You've also got to be very mindful of the potential market slow down particularly at the consumer end. Business confidence is also waning quite significantly and that's starting to flow through to the whole channel and you've got to be flexible with that movement."
The distributor has also added more staff over the last six months, including the appointment of retail director, Marlene Gant in February.
Moore said since hiring Gant, it had been working on developing its retail strategy.
Further details on the strategy will be released shortly, he said.
