Financial and business systems software vendor, Happen Business has struck a deal with distributor Dicker Data to give away a free copy of its Jim 2 application with every Compaq and Toshiba desktop or notebook sold until the end of June.
According to Hugh Evans, Happen's managing director, the benefits for resellers and their customers are double-barreled. He believes all four steps in the supply chain - the software vendor, the distributor, the reseller and the end user - are on a potential winner with the bundle.
"Dicker Data was looking for a value-add it could offer in the midst of what is a price at present while the benefit for Happen is to get more users onto the platform," Evans said. "Resellers can benefit with services revenues for implementing, expanding and supporting the software while users benefit from gaining access to affordable business-to-consumer (B2C) and business-to-business (B2B) systems."
Fiona Dicker, managing director at Dicker Data, said up to 3,000 Compaq and Toshiba systems will be sold with the free software - valued at $1980 per system - during the promotion. Dicker believes the Happen solution is good and she plans on implementing it within her own operation.
"The package seems to be good value at the full price," Dicker said. "So for free it is a bargain and a great value-add for us to tag onto Compaq and Toshiba sales. It is simply a matter of resellers and their customers getting to use it and they will find it very useful."
