After 20 years in the IT industry, Anne Mossman, Tech Pacific's sales and marketing director, will retire in July. John Walters, who until this month was LAN Systems' sales director, joins Australia's largest distributor in June to cover some of the gap left by the departure of one of the channel's true doyennes.
According to Kerry Baillie, Tech Pacific's Australian managing director, Mossman's vast experience and solid understanding of the company will be missed. He said Walters will come on board "to take charge of the entire sales force" but he will not assume the marketing responsibilities that were previously managed by Mossman.
Walters' presence will help "align our account managers better" and provide a boost to Tech Pacific's plans to push further into higher margin areas of IT distribution, according to Baillie.
"Our focus is now on being better at technical products and better at networking," he said. "We want to be better at the value business. We have put in place a professional services group which will be the technical support to our account managers.
"And of course John Walters comes from a networking background at LAN Systems so he will be driving that too. He does not have a particular mission to build that up but he does have some background in that area, so that will be a help to our plans."
Mossman, a former school teacher who started at Tech Pacific 12 years ago after eight years in IT industry sales and marketing roles in New Zealand, shifted her family to Australia in 1990 and now plans to take the next three years off to travel the world with her husband.
