Harris expands online services

Coles Myer subsidiary Harris Technology will integrate the software of ASX-listed developers Multiemedia to offer its customers an online Web development/e-commerce solution.

Multiemedia's Web site construction tools, ZoneBuilder, have been incorporated into the new service, named Harris Web Builder, which will provide users with a one-stop shop for do-it-yourself Web development.

Available through the Harris Technology Web site, the new service will allow small and medium businesses that buy their IT goods from Harris to also contract the reseller to build Web sites. Simple brochureware sites will start from as little as $29 per month, while a complete e-commerce with credit-card transaction capability begins at $69 per month.

The two parties are looking forward to the recurring revenue stream the service is expected to provide, and are pitching for around 40,000 customers to sign up.

It is not the first time Multiemedia has dabbled in the IT channel -- it acquired popular IT distributor Magnafield in May 2001 for $3.5 million.
