US reseller scraps PCs, embraces hosting

In a bizarre transition, an American reseller named Micron has decided to sell off its PC division,, and announced it will merge with a Web hosting company to concentrate on the hosting market.

Micron officials said the merger

will help the company focus solely on its hosting business and give a better opportunity to sharpen its focus as an independent entity.

The assets of Micron's other non-Web hosting company, Spectek, will be retained by Micron as part of the merger, officials said. Spectek provides DRAM for motherboards.

The combined hosting company will go forward with the name Interland and will manage six data centres, 112,000 customers and more than 227,000 paid, hosted Web sites. The value of the all-stock deal is approximately $US130
