Western Digital Caviar SE16 Designed for data-intensive applications, high-performance computing and multimedia systems, WD's Caviar SE16 drive delivers high performance, 3GBps transfer rates, and native command queuing (NCQ). Its two-platter design promotes cool, quiet operation in a high-capacity drive. It has a 16MB cache, and combines acoustic and power-reducing technologies to suit fully loaded PCs. The Caviar SE16 employs perpendicular magnetic recording technology to achieve high areal density. Intelli-Seek technology calculates optimum seek speeds to lower power consumption, noise and vibration. SecurePark then 'parks' the recording heads off the disk surface during spin up, spin down and when the drive is off. This improves long-term reliability due to less headwear and improved non-operational shock tolerance, WD claims. The 750GB drive also has StableTrac technology that secures the motor shaft at both ends to reduce system-induced vibration and stabilise platters for accurate tracking during read and write operations.
