Fujitsu Australia has increased its outsourcing portfolio with a $33 million contract to provide gas supplier BOC with applications via the Web.
Fujitsu will use a Citrix platform to deliver office productivity software, such as word processing, to the PCs of BOC employees through a Web interface on a pay-as-you-go basis.
Worth around $33 million over five years, the outsourcing contract will be piloted in Australia before being rolled out to BOC's international operations.
The initiative is part of BOC's Web-centric approach to procuring and using information technology, according to BOC officials. Fujitsu was selected based on its demonstrated delivery capability and the its worldwide presence and support, officials said.
Fujitsu expects to reduce maintenance and operational costs, improve access to network resources and ensure faster deployment of new applications using the Citrix software. The project will be in development for six months before Fujitsu delivers applications and associated services to BOC.
