Cellnet has promoted IBM business manager, Aidan Fitzgerald, to the newly created role of general manager, IT sales, just four months after he joined the distributor.
He will now be responsible for overseeing the company's state-based sales managers and sits alongside general manager of product procurement and development, Julian Phua. Previously, state managers reported directly to Cellnet managing director, Stephen Harrison. The new role came into effect on April 1.
Fitzgerald will continue to pay close attention to the IBM business, but will also have the opportunity to provide strategic direction across the entire sales team.
"It was something Stephen and I discussed and we felt the timing was right," he said. "I'll still be working extremely closely with IBM as it's still a work in progress, but that business is growing well."
Boosting the breadth of business with Cellnet's reseller base tops Fitzgerald's list.
"We have a good, strong customer base but we need to sell more to them, so we'll be focusing on our vendors and encouraging complementary sales," he said. "My approach is straightforward: It's having good, strong customer service, being responsive and making it easy for resellers to deal with us.
"The manufacturers and resellers are happy with us, but things can always be improved, and we need to keep striving to make things better."
Fitzgerald joined Cellnet in January as IBM business manager after 18 months with Queensland reseller, Corpnet. Prior to that, he held various roles with vendors and distributors in Europe.
