Riverbed adds to Australian team

 • 16 April, 2008 08:59

Riverbed Technology, the technology and market leader in wide-area data services (WDS), has appointed three new staff to support the company’s planned growth in the Melbourne and Canberra markets.

John Gordon and Iain Scott are based in Melbourne as the new regional sales manager and sales engineer, respectively, while David Hakaraia, sales engineer, is based in Canberra.

Steve Dixon, regional director, Australia/New Zealand, at Riverbed®, commented that the need for technology that supports Australia’s increasingly distributed workforce has put the company on a growth path since establishing offices here three years ago.

“WDS technology has particular relevance to Australia’s geographical spread of offices, and this is clearly reflected in the significant uptake we’ve seen of the Riverbed Steelhead products since 2005,” Dixon says. “Our new recruits are highly experienced and will be well-positioned to uncover valuable opportunities in both Melbourne and Canberra.”

John Gordon, new Riverbed regional sales manager for Victoria and South Australia, is heading up the company’s Melbourne operations. He takes on responsibility for building and maintaining relationships with Riverbed customers and resellers in Victoria and South Australia, and expanding the business through the partner community. Mr Gordon has more than 25 years experience in the IT industry and has held similar roles at Computer Associates, Borland, IBM and, most recently, Hewlett Packard.

Also based in Melbourne, Iain Scott has come on board as a sales engineer, southern region, where he works with partners and customers to ensure their technical requirements are met. Most recently, Mr Scott was a network consultant and solutions architect at Cerulean, a subsidiary of IBM. In this role, he successfully spearheaded the pre-sales efforts for WAN, security and IP communications solutions for customers including AXA, NAB, Rio Tinto and Cadbury Schweppes. He has also held technical consultant roles at ADX2 and Norman Disney and Young, where he provided technical and strategic IT consulting and project management to enterprise customers.

As the Canberra-based sales engineer for Riverbed, Mr Hakaraia is responsible for providing technical support to the company’s federal government and defence clients. Before joining Riverbed, Mr Hakaraia spent seven years at Cisco as a systems engineer where he looked after pre-sales for the federal government sector. He has worked with various government bodies, including the Australian Federal Police, the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations and other defence and intelligence agencies.

Riverbed Australian/New Zealand customers include Mirvac and the NZ Department of Conservation.
