Consumer electronics distributor, Conexus, has signed on to bring a range of Bowers & Wilkins high-end audio products to Australia.
The Melbourne-based distributor will focus on B&W's New Media range of sound products. The first item to ship locally will be the Zeppelin speaker system and docking station for the Apple iPod. While B&W has a strong reputation in the audio industry, Conexus marketing director, Mark Daley, said its iPod product was quite late-to-market and that the distributor needed to generate interest around the quality of its technology.
"There's no great rush to market for us with this product. Its exclusivity is a big part of its market pull," he said.
Conexus has appointed a variety of specialist resellers to sell the hardware. Daley said the Zeppelin had already been taken on-board by Apple and David Jones retailers.
B&W also retains Convoy as a distributor for its broader audio products range, but Daley said Conexus would only carry B&W's New Media range.
Although Conexus carries other high-end audio brands, Daley said B&W's New Media products offered home stereo system quality at an attractive, lower price point.
