Wireless in the wild

Wireless in the wild

For those of you who thought wireless technology was not penetrating the market, think again. It has penetrated deep, deep into the country. In fact, it can't penetrate any deeper.

Pictured here is a snapshot of the Katherine River flowing under the Katherine River Railway Bridge. It is from a community Web site called "Katherine Region Online" and is a sourced from a live Web-cam sitting on the accompanying Eugene Betti bridge. Along with the weather forecasts alongside it, the pictures beamed out from this webcam are used by Katherine locals every day to check on potential flooding problems.

The site is hosted by local reseller NT Technology. Sales manager Kevin Grey said the live webcam uses the latest wireless Internet technology to keep locals informed about the river. "And it's always been thought that people out here have no idea about technology, let alone being able to put it to good use," he said.
