Distribution Central storage business unit, SAN Systems, has been appointed the latest local distributor for information management vendor, CommVault.
The deal sees SAN Systems carrying CommVault's single data protection and management platform, Simpana. The software suite incorporates backup, recovery, archiving and information management systems.
Distribution Central marketing director, Nick Verykios, said CommVault's technology alliance with SAN Systems' existing storage hardware vendor, NetApp, made it a complementary and obvious choice. He stressed CommVault's single platform approach was another major factor behind the deal.
"In trying to build this storage business, we want to get best-of-breed brands in there. Rather than make acquisitions, CommVault has built this technology up from a common platform and all of it integrates back in," he said.
"Having a single application approach is important because it allows for intelligence in the backup and recovery to minimise time and reduce costs with overall efficiencies in all aspects of the data management process."
SAN Systems will provide reseller training, accreditation and certification around CommVault's software, as well as professional services support. Verykios said resellers did not need to complete certifications in order to sell the products, but he encouraged them to skill up and take advantage of professional services opportunities.
"There's backup and archiving to do, but the information management piece is where the intelligence is and where all the policy stuff is based," he said. "This is a huge opportunity for resellers - they can work with the customer to make the policy rules around compliance and regulatory processes and then implement them."
In a statement CommVault country manager, Gerry Sillars, said SAN Systems was a complementary addition to its existing distribution arrangements with Avnet and ACA Pacific. The distributor's technical experience and storage focus, as well as its NetApp relationship, made it a natural choice for CommVault, he said.
Distribution Central launched its SAN Systems storage subsidiary in November last year with a distribution agreement with storage vendor, NetApp. SAN Systems replaced NetApp's former distribution partners, Avnet and Lan 1.
Verykios said SAN Systems would announce more vendor partnerships shortly.
