PC hardware distributor, Altech, will open for business across the Tasman on April 1.
The move comes after a number of its vendors with exclusive distribution agreements, including Antec and Alphacool, clamoured for New Zealand representation.
"We've been trying to sell over there but nobody wants to keep stock," Altech managing director, Antony Sheen, said. "People have been placing orders in Australia and getting them delivered by air but it's very expensive.
"We are not expecting huge sales but they all add up and we would rather have our products represented than have people go to other brands."
Former TPG branch manager, Johnson Koo, will initially manage a team of six at the new Altech office. It has a 900sqm warehouse.
"It's been very hard to find somebody suitable because nobody wants to go to New Zealand from Australia," Sheen said. "Johnson has been in the industry for a long time and studied accounting, which is a bonus."
