JH Computer Services acquires Chernic Computers

Skills shortage drives services provider towards purchasing quality staff.

Perth-based service provider and, JH Computer Services (JHCS) has purchased niche services company, Chernic Computers, for an undisclosed sum.

JHCS director, Jennifer Clay, said it was forced to look at acquisitions because of the lack of skilled staff in the Perth market.

The acquisition will provide JHCS with two fully qualified technical staff and an extra sales person.

"We really needed some more staff and we weren't taking Chernic without them," Clay said. "For at least two years obtaining staff has been critical. There are people going up north because they earn massive wages driving trucks around the mining sites."

Chernic has been operating the Perth market for about 20 years and mainly provides technical and network services. It also builds systems and is a Microsoft certified partner. Clay said the company slotted in well with the JHCS business model.

All up, Clay's three companies - wholesaler, CompuWholesale, JHCS and ServiceWest, retain about 30 staff.

Clay started with JHCS in 1981 and set up its distribution arm, CompuWholesale, five years later. Chernic will sit under the JHCS banner.

"We have 12 technical staff now and we have also extended our customer base," she said. "We are always looking at business opportunities and if the right business comes along then we would look to acquire it."
