Macromedia has announced its Contribute product, an application that makes updating and publishing Web content to existing Web sites as simple as word processing. The software works with any HTML Web site and includes systems and checks that protect content from mistakes. It also give webmasters control over things such as style, layout and code standards and allows developers to delegate Web content maintenance while protecting the site design, code and functionality. Contribute maintains a history of page changes so users can roll back changes and switch between different versions of a page. The software will be available for Windows in December from Firmware Design, Scholastic Australia and Express Data.
It will carry an introductory price of $249. Education, government and corporate volume licensing will also be available. A Mac OS X version will be available next year and Mac users will be able to download a new product update to improve Dreamweaver MX performance and provide interoperability with Macromedia Contribute in December.
